Following my recent holiday in sunny Florida, as well as a photo gallery here are some of the highlights and surprises of the trip for me…
Best darkride
Spiderman at Islands of Adventure - a fully immersive motion base 4D simulator (at that still doesn’t explain how fantastic this ride is)- although Men in Black gets an "honourable mention" here

Best ‘Show’ (including both live and 4D)
This is toss up between Philarmagic at Magic Kingdom- which is "take your breath away" stunning - and Shrek (the latter has so much detail and so many anti-disney jokes it has to been looked through several times to see it all)
The new interactive CG Turtle Talk at Epcot (using Crush from Finding Nemo) gets an honourable mention for being very very clever and lip-synching a CG character in a real time conversation with audience members…

Best coaster - very difficult to choose between Montu and Kraken. For the others, Hulk is too rough in the second half of the ride, and the Dragons aren’t actually that good individually - apart from the Dueling. Kumba doesn’t even make the shortlist…

Worst Coaster (easy one) - Gwazi - only Lion was running, and it was awful. 50p wheels and so much vibration I had to check I had all my teeth at the end… this has actually taken last place in my entry to this years wooden coaster poll away from Grizzly at PGA.

Biggest Surprise - there’s loads here - Mission Space not being vomit-inducing - or the sheer power of G-Force at Old Town. Quite how wet the water rides at IoA actually are. Being at Magic Kingdom on Stitch opening day and seeing the lengths the park went to.

Best restaurant - Mythos (IoA)

Most Painful experience - Storm (Wet and Wild) - now this is a "space bowl" style waterslide, however, I had so much momentum that on the first circuit of the bowl, I actually jumped where the slide pipe enters and thumped into the side wall quite hard…
