Day Four and Five
Efteling is probably one of my favourite parks - despite it being about 5 years since my last visit - and although the coasters really are nothing to write home about, the whole place is landscaped perfectly, and the themed rides are absolutely superb.
The best rides (as last time), Villa Volta (the original Haunted Swing from Vekoma), Dreamflight, and Vogel Rok (enclosed coaster). Also of note was the huge hole alongside the Pegasus Wooden Coaster (Intamin) where next years new ride is being built. The signs on the construction walls seemed to indicate that the ride is based on the legend of the Flying Dutchman - from what I understand, it’s the story of a ship.
I’m not sure what this is, although the story would fit a kind of hybrid flume/darkride concept - which is the kind of thing Efteling do very very well - no doubt time will tell, and I might be making en effort to return to the park sooner rather than later to check out this new ride.
We finished the day with the short(ish) drive to Delft, where we checked into our hotel (the only one to offer wifi free of charge to guests) - got some food and a very early night.
The final day brought us to Drievliet - home of several coasters from Maurer, and playing host to what appeared to be every primary school kid from a 20 mile radius. There must have been thousands of them shouting and screaming. We didn’t stay long, the coasters weren’t very good, and with that many kids, we just had to leave.
Final park of the trip was Duinrell - a nice landscaped woodland park, with some nice rides which were almost impossible to photograph - including an enclosed giant splash and a virtually invisible TopSpin (which I didn’t see run once)
