League Of Gentlemen’s Apocalypse
I never got into watching the The League Of Gentlemen TV show, and almost didn’t bother seeing this - but this film is very enjoyable even without that background.
Basically the plot works without knowing all the in-jokes and references, which makes it very accessable to folks who don’t know “The League”.
To sum it up - what would happen to the world of a group of fictional characters when the writers stop writing about them and start writing about something else… what if there was a portal between the fictional world of Royston Vaysey and the “real world”… what if the characters found the portal and made contact with the writers…
Then they manage to break into the writers latest project, a period drama set in the 17th century… and brings us to an suitably apocalyptic finale.
The writers/actors seem to be playing at least 4 parts each - including themselves! It’s lot of fun and is very surreal in places.
A very enjoyable, very British movie…
