Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Simply superb. A perfect balance of humour, sadness, love, misery, and of course, millions of gallons of melted chocolate!
The Oompa Loompa’s are superb - set-piece song and dance routines highlight each major event in the story, it’s bright, colorful and lively.
Go see it.

Seriously Out There…
This is cool - astronomers have discovered a tenth planet (and no, Douglas Adams fans, they’ve not called it “Rupert”) which has been given the really memorable name 2003 UB313 which doesn’t exactly trip off the tounge…
However, as the map on this page from the BBC shows, it’s a long way away. A very long way away. It’s 97 times further from the sun than the Earth…
As I said, seriously out there…

Fantastic Four
Not bad at all - and a nice break from other hero movies - the infighting in the team is as prevalent as the battle to stop Doctor Doom - despite him not making any tangible threat to the city!
Spectacular in places, this story of a team of reluctant heroes is excellent stuff - and the action sequences are stunningly realistic looking.
Fun - yes!

Amphibious Beatings
Now, we all hate the “Crazy Frog” ad’s on the TV - they’re everywhere, usually several times in each break…
Now it’s time to do to the frog what I certainly want to do everytime I hear that tune… take a baseball bat to it… so why not Get your own back.

James Doohan
In some sadder news today, one of the stars of the original Star Trek TV series and movies has passed away.
James Doohan who is most famous for his role as the Chief Engineer “Scotty” in the original Star Trek TV show, despite actually being Canadian passed away yesterday from a combination of Pnuemonia and Alzheimers desease, at the age of 85.
According to this story on the BBC, his ashes are to be launched into space on a flight currently scheduled for September.
I was trying to avoid using any cliched quotes from the series or movies here, but one just jumped out from the comments on this page:
It comes from the final scene of Star Trek 6 - The Undiscovered Country and is the order from Kirk when they’re ordered back to Earth be dicomissioned…
“Third star to the left, and straight on till morning.”
