London 2012

Who’d have guessed we’d actually win something in Sport…

Yes, London has won the 2012 Olympic games. Now the work must being, they’ve got 6 years to rebuild an area of London to house the games, including accomodation, stadiums, training facilities, and of course the vast transport infrastructure that’ll be needed to move thousands and thousands of visitors and athletes around the city, and around the UK to the other venues.

It’s time for the government to push for investment in public transport UK wide, for huge capital investments in the railways and local transport to give this country a public transport system it can be proud of - and not just in London - let’s see these improvements occuring country wide.

Of course, there’s always the question of how much more tax we’ll end up paying Uk-wide to pay for all this investment in the South East…

Charity Chain Emails - Now, raising awareness is one thing - getting people to forward emails of an animation of an ASCII art figure walking to everyone they know “to help her reach her destination” is pointless. I recieved one of these emails today, and although interesting, doesn’t actually acheive anything for the charities who work towards curing cancer, or caring for the victims of this illness.

Walking for Breast Cancer is nothing new - but it’s normally done as a “organised” event to raise money for the Charities who work in this area (Cancer Research, Marie Curie nursing etc) rather than as an email letter which cannot actually generate any income for the organisations.

Instead of sending these chain emails out to all your friends, if you really want to support cancer charities how about sending them a few quid, bucks, Euros, triganic Pu’s, or whatever the local currency in use where you are is - it’ll do far more good.

Bring it On.

A smoking ban for Wales - surely a good thing. This will make going out for a meal or to the pub a far more pleasant and enjoyable experience.

I hate going out with colleagues from work and coming back stinking of smoke. I fully support such a ban on smoking in public places - including bars, restaurants, clubs - and all those places where smoking is already banned (but people still do it) like on buses.

Smokers may complain that they should have a choice - but the point is that it may be their “choice” to smoke, but it affects anyone in the same space - that they choose to damage their health is indeed their choice - but it’s the effect it has on everyone else, especially those who have chosen not to smoke and poison themselves that’s the issue here.

I’m glad to see the new anti-smoking adverts on TV too - blunt and to the point messages - “You Smoke, You Stink” for example, let’s make our towns and cities a more pleasant place to be.
