Google Talk is Here
Google Talk is here - and available to anyone who has a Google IM client (although as it’s based on Jabber, there are already plenty of clients other than Google’s own one!) - however it appears to be fairly well integrated into GMail itself - it’ll pick up your contact iist automatically, as well as provide alerts for incoming emails. Is this the final nail in the coffin of the battle between MSN/AOL/Yahoo for the IM market - or is it just another protocol to have running - we’ll see…
The details for using other Jabber clients are available from Forever Geek
I have a number of Gmail (and therefore Google Talk invitations) available, so if you don’t have a GMail account and want one - give me a shout via the contact form.

Desktop and IM … in the same week!
Earlier in the week Google launched a beta of Google Desktop v2, with a very cool sidebar feature I’ve already grown to love and has become an essential desktop accessory.Today, they’ve launched the first beta of Google Talk, their IM/v…
I’ve just realised an essential feature they need to add: a web-based version of the client, like MSN’s Web Messenger, so Google Talk can be used anywhere. Maybe that’s one of the “secret” features they’re planning on adding before the final release.
This is all well and good but i will still have to use msn as 98% of my contacts won’t switch. Not really going to have the option to switch like with gmail.
John, I know the problem well - 95% of my contacts are on MSN, 1 on Jabber, 2 on AOL - so I use the Trillian client most of the time, which merges them all into one contact list.
