Doing some updates

As there are new versions of two of the core pieces of software that this site runs on, I’m spending some time updating them to the new versions - so expect some strange results, and especially “unusual” templates appearing and disappearing…

End of the year quiz

I found this on Neil’s World - and thought I’d give it a go for myself:

1.What did you do in 2005 that you’d never done before?
Tried Guiness at the brewery!

2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
No, and yes… my resolutions are basically as follows:

  • Lose Weight

No

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Yes.

5. What countries did you visit?
Ireland - for the first time, and the Netherlands.

6. What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005?
A relationship, or at least a good circle of friends to socialise with outside of work.

7. What date(s) from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Tricky one - the only “key” date was that of my Grandmother’s funeral :(

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
A work project, the details of which I won’t go into (’cos I don’t talk about work on here)

9. What was your biggest failure?
Not losing weight.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Fortunately, nothing major this year, just a couple of colds.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
My car.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
The few people I call “friends” and the support they’ve been to me this year. I wish I was more of a friend to them too.

The population of the UK who voted Labour in for another term of Government…

14. Where did most of your money go?
Paying off debts. Sad really…

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
RITA Queen of Speed (sad…)

16. What song will always remind you of 2005?
Tricky one, as I don’t listen to much “popular” music - and the year isn’t really anything to remember.. however 2005 was the year of Crazy Frog (sorry)

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
happier or sadder?
No change really
thinner or fatter?
No change (unfortunately)
richer or poorer?
Poorer, but more under control

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Spending time with friends, excercising

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Work, eating, worrying and being stressed.

Family.

The Cylons.

Nothing. 31.

Same as usual.

I don’t think I’m going to admit that…

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Fuel prices.

37. Who did you miss?
A friendship that was “lost” back in 2004… and I still miss.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
There’s a few I could name here, so I won’t ‘cos it’d just upset those I missed.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005.
Can’t think of one off the top of my head - however something along the lines of “spending more than you earn is a bad thing”

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
Lonely - by Akon
“I’m so lonely, I’m Mr. Lonely, I have nobody, To call my own” (heard one day in the gym, and it depressed me ‘cos it was so reflective of my life at that moment)

3,2,1,1, Huh?

According to reports, there is a plan to add a “leap second” to the UTC time (the official source of time) at midnight on New Years Eve - so the clocks will go from 23:59:59 to 23:59:60 before moving into 2006 - so how this will affect the countdown to the new year is anyone’s Guess - will Big Ben’s chimes be at the correct time?

Who knows…. and by midnight most people will probably be too drunk, and trying to find someone to kiss at the turn of midnight to care…

Sick at Christmas

Mini eggs at Christmas

So it’s over again (at least until the stores get the crackers and cards out again in August) - Christmas this year can be remembered as the year my sister bought us each a packet of Cadbury’s Mini Eggs (found in Woolworths the week before Christmas - and a photo to come when I manage to download my phone) - and now, Tuesday and I’m very “under the weather” - dosed up on Sudafed and feeling fairly lousy… roll on the new year and the fun that’s going to bring.

Update - added picture

King Kong

A short review of an overly long film…

Too much CGI for the sake of it (and some of it not entirely convincing), the plot is fairly minimal and much of the action seems to be there just to pay the bills at the effects company - whole sequences “shot” in nothing but CG.

Cut half an hour from the first third, and half an hour from the middle third and it’d be bearable… it’s just too long for the story it’s trying to tell.

Tracking the Man in Red

Every year, NORAD (based in Chyenne Mountain) track Santa’s movements - this year is no different, and they plan to post updates on their website as teh night progresses - yes it’s a bit of fun, but it’s probably as good use of all that secret military technology as any at this time of year!
