What…
… have Chessington done to the poor, defenceless little Bubbleworks?
I was always told, “if you can’t think of anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all”, so I’ll stop here… (actually, no I won’t…)

Take the Spyware Challenge
I’ve raved before about SiteAdvisor - but they now have an online quiz to see how good you are at spotting sites which will try and infect your PC with spyware in files you download from them.
I managed to get 8/10 right, but even so, it’s hard to spot the dangerous sites!
Check it out here:
http://www.siteadvisor.com/quizzes/spyware_0306.html
Once you’ve done the quiz, check out this article on techweb and realise that you are not alone, and are probably one of the 97% of people who can’t tell either…
By the way, they’ve now crawled this site, and here’s the report

Railtrack Introduce Time Machine
I’ve just been planning a journey for work by rail, and discovered that it would seem that Railtrack have installed a small wormhole at Bristol Parkway….
either that, or their website can’t work out that in order to depart at 07:17, you’ll need to arrive before, not 40mins after.
You can reproduce this journey by searching on www.thetrainline.com for trains from Newport Gwent to Birmingham International, and select the 07:39 with 2 changes…
Update: The trainline is now showing a more likely departure time - leaving Parkway at 08:08… not 07:17 - but still managing to arrive in Birmingham at the same time.

Counting Coasters
Thanks to a posting on the ECC’s mailing list - I’ve discovered the website “Coaster Count“.
Now, I’ve been through my memory, and have listed every coaster I’ve been on - and it’ turns out that the last “new” coaster I rode was my 250th rollercoaster ridden. (to clarify, I don’t count powered coasters!)
The ride (as regular readers may have guessed) was Speed at Oakwood. At least that milestone of riding was passed with a really good ride!

Torchwood
Is “torchwood” the new “bad wolf” ?
So far, the phrase has been used twice this series - firstly in the Christmas Invasion as the name of the project which developed the weapon, secondly in Episode 2, the name of the barren estate is “Torchwood”
I know there’s a Doctor Who spinoff series coming, called “Torchwood” - is that word going to be a running theme through the second series of Doctor Who.
Although of course, episode 2 is all about a “Bad Wolf” (just not that bad wolf…)
Update: Scott has found the Torchwood House website. (it seems that this series of Doctor Who will have it’s share of “fake” websites, like the last did)

Pound A Litre?
Yup - I’ve seen 99.9p per litre for Diesel in several places over the last few days - I can only assume it’s only a matter of time before we start seeing more protests and unrest over the sheer costs of fuel (and the taxation that amplifies the effect of the crude prices) Continue Reading »
