Well, what more can I say, than to simply show this picture - yes, that is the first drop on Speed at Oakwood.
Today I was fortunate to be able to visit Oakwood park, for the opening celebration of their all-new coaster, the very beyond-vertical coaster, Speed.
This is a ride that although looking very very intimidating, is actually a great deal of fun, perfectly paced, quick, smooth, with plenty of forces throughout - it’s certainly a ride that makes you feel you’ve done something at the end - but with all that, almost without exception everyone I saw getting off that ride had a smile on their face - which says a lot - it’s a winner, it’s a ride that people are going to enjoy again and again and again.
I for one will be looking forward to getting back down to Oakwood in the near future to ride this one many more times.

Looks great, sounds great, apparently it is great! I’m looking forward to riding this one…
(How come your post is so coherent? I thoguht you were knocking back the champagne?
)
When I travelled along the M3 last week I saw that rollercoaster at Thorpe Park from a distance, and it looked very scary. Although I rarely go to theme parks, when I do I usually talk myself into riding the big coasters. But if I ever go to Thorpe I think I’ll avoid that one. And Speed at Oakwood! Despite what you say Tom, it still looks scary!
Champagne?
Ollie,
Let me know next time you’re up here and we’ll take a little “trip” to Thorpe. Me? Pressure you into riding Stealth (205ft high, 0-80mph in 2.3 seconds)? Never.
Speed and Stealth are two very different machines - Stealth is over in a matter of seconds… Speed does fun and interesting stuff after it’s drop…
As for the champagne, I only had the one (at lunchtime) ‘cos I had to drive home after the park closed (several hours later) - I don’t condone drinking and driving in any way.
[...] The ride (as regular readers may have guessed) was Speed at Oakwood. At least that milestone of riding was passed with a really good ride! [...]
Oblivion is great - speed is FANTASTIC! The queues were really short so we went on a few times and each time it was brilliant. Well done Oakwood!!!
