If you’re turning right…

… at the roundabout, you should NOT be in the left hand lane - unless the road markings show otherwise.

If you’re planning to visit Cardiff, there are several junctions where the “being in the wrong lane to jump the queue” is common practice, even if there’s no queue - so watch out - people don’t obey rule 160 around here.

Rule 163 is missing the final bullet point:

  • Morons

I’ve never seen anywhere where this behaviour is worse, why the police don’t regularly stop people and point out the error of their ways, I don’t know.

[...] no, it’s not football, motor racing, or turning right at roundabouts [...]

Of course, I do know why the police don’t stop people and point out their error - simple, the traffic police are too busy to catch the really dangerous drivers who are actually putting people’s lives at risk by inconsiderate and frankly dangerous behaviour on the road. I mean why should they bother with these idiots when there are people who drift a few mph over the speed limit on a clear and empty motorway to be fined and prosecuted instead.

[...] Cars have to be checked that they are up to the required standards for use on British roads every year (once they reach 3 years old), so why not have a similar assessment for drivers - say every 5 years, every driver has to have certain aspects of their driving assessed - most importantly, their eyesight, and their ability to perform simple motoring manoeuvres without endangering other people - you know, things like roundabouts, traffic lights, using indicators, correct motorway lane discipline, using mobile phones, and so on… [...]

Since the post was written, the highway code has been updated, and the rule numbers above are no longer correct.
