Peugeot, the saga…

Now, I’ve been having a strange problem with my car, which has (finally) been fixed on the 4th attempt - some kind of interference between the central locking and the electric windows…

… on the way home, I discovered that while they fixed the windows problem, they’ve managed to disable the electric adjustment controls for the wing mirrors.

Not good… No wonder the 307 came second from bottom in the Top Gear survey…

  • Never buy a French car, unless it’s the Renault “Oh, Papa” R26. Honda were good to me. I got a Jazz (one of the first off the assembly line) and nothing - I stress nothing - went wrong with it. Unlike an old colleague of mine who bought a brand new BMW Mini - again, one of the first - which spent more time in the first two years in the Mini garage than it did on the road! And so far (touch wood), the Germans are impressing me with their build quality.

I generally follow the rule - never buy a car in it’s first year of production… when I do eventally change the Pug (and it will be eventually) I won’t be buying another one. The car isn’t really a problem, it’s the quality of care I’m getting from the dealer for minor problems that I’ve got issue with.

Next time I buy a car it’ll probably be something with a reputation for quality - something from the VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda stable (given that they’re all the same company) probably…

  • I was told if I want something that won’t go wrong buy Japanese or German. If I want something a bit more fun go for French or Spainish and if I want cool but know it will break then go for Italian. My main concern however is to keep the price of insurance down.

John, as long as your idea of “fun” is sitting in the waiting area of the dealership, drinking tea that isn’t even free, on the hottest day of the year while they take your car apart *again* to try and fix the same problem as last time, then, yes, buy french.
