Seed Watch

In the tradition of James’ series of “watches“, it’s time for one of my own - Seed Watch.

First a little bit of background (although I don’t talk about work normally, this is the background to this story) my employer has provided packets of seeds (I’m not going to try and explain why!)

My seeds have been planted in the garden, according to the instructions on the packet, and will get sunshine and water and we’ll all see how they develop and grow. I’m not posting a photo until there’s something to see, as a patch of dirt in a sunny corner of the garden doesn’t currently make for an interesting photo.

When things start to develop, there will be photographs, and we’ll start the “guess what’s growing” competition…

If you’re turning right…

… at the roundabout, you should NOT be in the left hand lane - unless the road markings show otherwise.

If you’re planning to visit Cardiff, there are several junctions where the “being in the wrong lane to jump the queue” is common practice, even if there’s no queue - so watch out - people don’t obey rule 160 around here.

Rule 163 is missing the final bullet point:

  • Morons

I’ve never seen anywhere where this behaviour is worse, why the police don’t regularly stop people and point out the error of their ways, I don’t know.

Cooling Beer, the New Zealand Way

Take one can of beer, one gas cylinder, one small jet engine…

http://www.asciimation.co.nz/beer/index.html

He also helpfully includes some notes on the construction of his home-made turbojet…

Apparently his next project is a way to cook sausages with an afterburner…

Parking Sensors are Evil

I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve been “blocked in” by people who’se cars have parking sensors, which allow them to parallel park into spaces barely big enough - without leaving enough room for the cars on either side to get out. It’s just inconsiderate - so those of you with flash cars with Parking Sensors (especially BMW drivers - who always seem the worst culprits when it comes to inconsiderate behaviour on the road) when you’ve parked your car with the aid of the beeping noises, get out, and instead of just locking it and walking away, look how close you are to the car behind/in front and if you’ve not left a sensible gap between, get back in the car and move it.

Making life difficult for other motorists is not the point of parking sensors, so please use a little common sense…

Now the question is, will BMW’s new “automatic parking” system make things worse…

Four Years…

… is unfortunately nowhere near long enough between World Cup’s.

At least this one is over. I can’t see what all the fuss has been about - but at least it’ll be 2010 before we have to endure another one.

At least this means that Top Gear should be back on telly next week…

Time to remember

A year ago today terrorists detonated 4 devices on London’s Public Transport system, 3 on Tube trains, one on a bus.

Today is a day to remember the suffering and pain these people caused in the name of their cause. Think of the families of the victims, I will be observing the 2 minutes silence at noon.

I urge you all to take 2 minutes out of your day to remember those who died.

Edit It does annoy me a little when people do this “half-heartedly” - although sitting in silence, they carry on tapping away at their computers, or surfing the web. If you’re going to “remember”, then do that - sit there and think about the people who lost loved ones. Don’t just sit there writing another email to someone.
