Changes
Yes, I thought it was time to change the way this site looks again - this is a bit more than a cosmetic change however, as the photo gallery system has been ripped out and replaced with a system integrated into WordPress - so if I change the theme of the site I don’t have to reskin the photo gallery seperately.
There are currently two versions of the theme online (Fresh, the blue one, and Not So Fresh, the black one) - I’m not yet sure which I prefer…
The time is nearly upon us…
Today, a search for the word “Torchwood” on my TiVo has returned the programme details - yes, Torchwood is a week away… and there’s a companian series called “Torchwood Unclassified” too (much like Dr Who had the “Confidential” show).
Woo - should be plenty of places I recognise as the show is both set and filmed in Cardiff.
Dealing with a Sales Call
All I’m going to say is “take a listen to this”
Simply brilliant.
First Sighting
I could not believe my eyes.
I walked into my local branch of Woolworths this afternoon, to find that not only did they have Christmas stuff out on display for retail - but they had actually started the process of decorating the store - with fully decorated Christmas Trees mounted on top of the shelving.
Good grief. Selling Christmas stuff in October is bad enough - but having the sheer audacity to actually put the decorations up is just ridiculous!
Woolworths - listen up - CHRISTMAS IS NOT IN OCTOBER.
Fuelling Rage
Well, in answer to the fury at the obscene cost of petrol and diesel (even after the recent 10p/litre price drops) I’ve discovered a website where you can find the cheapest source of Petrol/Diesel in a given place.
Simply enter a postcode, and once you’ve registered on the site, you can find out where the cheap fuel is.
See http://www.petrolprices.com for more tips to save fuel, as well as the search for cheap fuel.
Gas woes
Apparently they can’t give natural gas away now…
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/5402370.stm
Which leads to the obvious question of why it costs so much by the time it gets to our houses!
Oh the answer apparently is:
“Because domestic gas bills are based on longer-term forward prices, consumers will have to wait for big reductions.”
Straight Outta Lynwood
How cool is this - a “Dual Disc” CD/DVD (literally, a single disc which is a CD on one side and a DVD on the other, containing a full 5.1 mix of every track, “karaoke” instrumental versions, plus videos) - a great idea for adding value to an already inexpensive album… hey, music industry - that’s called “adding value” to a $14 purchase - I’m impressed!
Weird Al Yankovic’s “Straight Outta Lynwood”
Now for a bit of a review - the album is the usual mix of original material and parodies, and the inner geek in me loves the lyrics of some of the songs… especially “White and Nerdy” (parody of a rap song I’m not familiar with) and the two obviously computer geek songs - “Don’t Download This Song” (available for download from the official website of the song) and “Virus Alert“, but the highlight is “Trapped in the Drive-Thru” an 11 minute tale…
It’s just a shame the best track had to be dropped… but it can also be downloaded from The Website (scroll down near the bottom of the page and look for “You’re Pitiful”)
All in all, better than Poodle Hat, but it’s no “Running With Scissors”… and as usual the original material is often funnier than the parodies.
As the final track says “Go and buy the CD like you know that you should” - Straight Outta Lynwood
