Paul O’Flaharty tagged me while replying to my post about social network overload… (much of this is copied entirely from Paul’s post…)

Now there are a bunch of rules that go with participating in this meme but they’ll really only affect the folks I tag, so I’ll post them at the end.

Okay, here are 8 things about me - list inspired in part by Paul, but some of the stuff on it won’t come as any surprise to regular readers.

  1. I won’t blog about my job. It’s work, it pays the bills, and I won’t endanger that by blogging about my employer, my customers or what I do.
  2. I do all my own chores - which is probably why my house is a mess most of the time.
  3. I’m (surprisingly) an “outdoors” person - if the weathers good - and I’m a member of my local Rambling group.
  4. I don’t get to enjoy the outdoors so much - I’m nowhere near fit enough.
  5. I love peace and quiet.
  6. I’m single, and have no idea how to change that.
  7. I’m currently somewhat addicted to The Legend of Zelda - Twilight Princess.
  8. I’m something of a loner - but equally, I’d rather have company.

Now after being so revealing it’s my turn to tag 8 more folks:

err…. actually, I’ll only tag those 3…For those of you that have been tagged here is a reminder of the rules:

One: Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.

Two: People who are tagged need to write their own blog entry about their eight things and post these rules.

Three: at the end of your entry, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names/pseudonyms/blogs. Four: Don’t forget to let them know!

Social Network Overload

Does anyone else who uses multiple tools to keep in touch with friends suffer from “information overload” - whether it’s MSN, AOL, Pownce, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Windows Live Spaces, Last.FM, Flixster, Bebo, FriendsReunited, or the many other social tools…

It’s like the early days of IM (before “mutli-service” clients appeared like Trillian or Pidgin) when it was normal to have several clients running to talk to various different people…

What we really need is a “Meta-Social-Network” - which can collate information from many social networks, and combine all your friends into one seemless place, so for example a single entry appears “status update” on Facebook, a post on Twitter and Pownce, a personal message on MSN Messenger, etc…

Won’t happen.

But if it appears I’m ignoring you on one network, I’ve probably just not had time to check it recently - if you really want to talk to me, the best ways are old-fashioned email, or IM.

Throwing a ball…

Have you ever wondered what would happen if you threw a ball out of the back of moving vehicle - but at exactly the same velocity as the vehicle was moving?

No, me neither.

However, a couple of blokes in Japan obviosuly have, and put together a practical experiment involving a small pick-up truck and a baseball pitching machine.

Then they put the video on YouTube for us to enjoy and marvel at.

A New Look (again)

The site has (as those of you not reading the RSS feed can tell) had a bit of a re-vamp - including the addition of the photo at the top of the page.

As this site is called “Tom’s View of the World” - I decided to go through my photo gallery and select a few of those views to put in that image (currently there are 17 images). Each pageload will give a random choice from the images I selected.

Some of the pictures are fairly old, and the quality of digital cameras has come a long way…

Duck!

If you’re in the South West of England this summer, and find a small plastic toy washed up on the beach - it might be one of these globetrotting ducks

The result of a shipping accident (the container fell off a ship) these plastic toys have been floating the worlds oceans, at the whim of wind and current for years…
