Year in Review
Filed under: Articles and Essays, Early Christmas, General, Virgin Media / NTL
After 9Â months or so of looking at Christmas merchandise in the shops, I think it’s now time to say “Happy Christmas” (replace Christmas with your choice of winter holiday if it’s not applicable to you).
So, the year in review… Read more
You can just tell…
it’s back to school time…
- Kids are running around in school uniforms
- Supermarkets are giving away vouchers so you can get them to donate equipment to local schools that they otherwise couldn’t afford.
- Tesco are selling Christmas Cake.
Here we go again…
I claim “first spot” for 2007
I meant to post this a few weeks ago, but had forgotten until now…
I was in my local shopping centre over Easter Weekend, and noticed that Millies Cookies had out for sales their “Christmas Cookies” - I enquired why they were Christmas cookies, and why they were being sold at Easter…
Apparently they contain the same stuff used to fill that staple of Christmas confectionary - mince pie. As for why they were being sold at Easter, she didn’t know…
Is that some kind of record - selling Christmas stuff before Easter Sunday?
Petition the Government
Filed under: Early Christmas, In The News, Moronic Driving, Politics
As the UK governments online petition system has been making headlines, I’ve had a look to see if there are any on there which should be brought to your attention… here’s a few that I feel should be receiving a lot more publicity:
- Make it an endorseable offence to sit in the middle lane of a motorway for no reason
- Create a Road Safety Information Campaign to improve driving standards
- increase the number of traffic police and ensure that they effectively enforce the dangerous driving laws.
- Stop the sale of Christmas Stock untill 1st December
I’m not highlighting the ones which call for the PM to do stupid things, like juggle ice-cream (yes, that’s in there) - but the above are all serious issues affecting people in the UK on a day-to-day basis (or at least in the case of the last one, on a day to day basis for 6 months of the year)
First Sighting
I could not believe my eyes.
I walked into my local branch of Woolworths this afternoon, to find that not only did they have Christmas stuff out on display for retail - but they had actually started the process of decorating the store - with fully decorated Christmas Trees mounted on top of the shelving.
Good grief. Selling Christmas stuff in October is bad enough - but having the sheer audacity to actually put the decorations up is just ridiculous!
Woolworths - listen up - CHRISTMAS IS NOT IN OCTOBER.
Merry August, and a Happy, errr, Summer Bank Holiday
That’s right folks, just when it feels like summer, just when your thinking of days out, and you’ve put the festive season of winter far far out of your mind, what do you find in your local supermarket - that’s right…
Mr Men Christmas Candles.
Admittedly, they’re on the “reduced” counter, but even so, this has got to be some kind of record - so here’s a link to Woke up this morning.
Now, don’t get me wrong, as I’ve said before - I’m not totally anti-Christmas - just the commercialisation which leads to things like this being on sale in the middle of summer.
(plus, my prediction wasn’t too far off)
