A critical Wordpress patch
If’ you’re running WP 2.1.1 you need to update your files urgently. There may be a serious security hole in some downloads of 2.1.1
Blatent Content Extraction…
Note the pingback on the previous post (the one about Vista).
That pingback appears to be from a (quite badly) set up WordPress blog with a plugin to rip content via RSS from other sites. Notably it stripped out the link to “previous post”. Unusually for these ripper sites, there is no advertising (yet), however there is also no indication of the purpose of the site, nor the identity of it’s owner.
It’s also clearly designed to only show the first part of a post, to remove any copyright messages that appear - so the RSS feed for this site now has the copyright message at the top of each post, rather than at the end.
Apologies to those of you who read the site via RSS…
Another week, another WordPress
It seems there’s been another upgrade to wordpress - it seems there’ve been quite a few recently, however this is the one we’ve been waiting for - Wordpress 2.1 - not a security update but a whole new version with new features to boot.
I’ve not installed it here yet, mainly as it’s a bigger step than the using point releases are, and I need to back everything up first.
My first plugin.
I've written my first Wordpress Plugin - a little gadget that allows readers who are regular commenter's on the site to create an avatar of themselves which will appear when they post a comment.
It's not quite tidy enough to release for other sites to use - there's some extra work to do on the avatar management screens, and it needs to be modified so that there are some options (things like the size of the avatar, and the number of posts before a user is considered a "regular") - but on this site, if you've posted more than 10 comments before, you'll see a link under the comments posting box where you can create or manage your avatar.
Wordpress 2.0.5
I’ve just upgraded to WP2.0.5 - a minor stepup - a few security fixes and the like - but it might cause some RSS readers to relist every page in the feed as being “new”.
Sorry if that happens to you!
