There’s a shame
So Labour have won again.
It’s a real shame we don’t have a proportional representation system in this country - then the number of seats on parliament each party has would reflect the number of votes they gained nationally - which would reflect the sizes of the vote in each constituency. Doing so would have a much more balance parliament which would much better reflect the balance of votes.
Each of the 3 main parties has less than 40% of the voters behind them which given the turnout this year represents less than 25% of the adult population who are eligible to vote - so less than a quater of the population want Labour in power, yet Labour have well over 50% of the seats. This is hardly representative of the makeup of the population of this country.
At least labour have acknowledged the Iraq Factor. David Blunkett is quoted as saying:
Labour needed to “hear the voice of the British people”
I thought that was the point of government - if they’d been listening to the people, maybe we wouldn’t have invaded a soverign nation under false pretences (searching for weapons which their leader claimed didn’t exist - weapons we have yet to find, so it’s quite likely that he was telling the truth…), maybe we wouldn’t be paying 90p a litre for fuel (75% of which goes straight into the governments pockets) etc…
So basically, nothing changes, we still have a warmonger in power, we’re still going to be paying the highest prices in the developed world for fuel, we’re still going to give more and more control of our country to the Eurocrats in Brussels, and we’ll probably end up paying more and more tax.
Remember, the majority of voters (over 60%) did not vote for Labour. They shouldn’t have power, it’s just our election system that permits it.
Oh goodie. 5 more years of this…

Five more years?
With 619 of 646 seat declared, the vast majority of the General Election results are now in. Labour have won “a historic third term”, but they’ve been hit hard with the loss of 47 seats. The Conservatives had a better night, gaining 3…
